Under the current proposed regulations in Vancouver, Laneway homes may only be rented and not sold separately.

In the space typically occupied by a double garage, approx 60 - 70 sq. meters the laneway home normally enters from the green space of the main home’s back yard. Vancouver’s current maximum allowable height allows for 4.6 meters, so angled roofs create loft space which can typically accommodate sleeping quarters. Living, dining and cooking happen in one room on the main level, one bathroom may incorporate just a shower stall or an undersized bathtub.
